Nursing Geriatric Syndrome
Question: Discuss about the Nursing for Geriatric Syndrome. Answer: As overheard by Mrs., Brody that she is just a geriatric syndrome, and she needs to be discharged home as soon as possible, it suggests that Mrs. Brodys health condition does not fall into specific disease category. However, the geriatric syndrome has great implications for functionality and quality of life in older people. The geriatric syndrome is common in frail older people, and it includes symptoms like delirium, falls, physical disability, cognitive frailty and many other symptoms (Morley 2012). The risk factors for geriatric syndrome include cognitive impairment, frailty, and history of fall, impaired mobility, and sensory deficits. Patients like Mrs. Brody will face various challenges in managing daily life activities. Mrs. Brody, the concern is right, since she has fractured her hip, she cannot be left untreated like this. She needs immediate surgery to repair the fractures. Post surgery also she will require rehabilitation therapy to start mobilizing at home slowly with dif ferent types of exercise (Gielen et al. 2012). Reference Morley, J.E., 2012.
